Walking In Newtown
Pedestrian Crossing, (video, 2:00 mins, 2015)
is designed to recreate a phenomenological experience of walking as well as a visual observation of others walking in the city. The moving images of pedestrians have been slowed to highlight the gestures and movements we make as we walk in and around the geometric structures of the built environment. The sound is of the street and the silence sometimes yearned for in the cacophony of the city. The walkers fade into the sky and grass as an evocation of humanity’s fleeting time on earth.
Ground and Sky, (video 3:20 mins, 2015) was made while walking along two of my regular paths in Newtown. I pointed the camera in directions different to our usual point of view in order to reveal the often ignored and unseen. The disruptive sound is of the street.
