A Walk in the Park, Hyde Park

The urban park is what the Situationists describe as a pivot point in the psychogeographic map of the city and is a standard element in the design of many cities around the world. I used Hyde Park as a site of investigative and artistic walking because it is simultaneously a ‘fixed point’ in Sydney as well as having unique ‘psychogeographical contours.’ Hyde Park is the oldest, and most intensely used park in Sydney since colonisation and has an extensive history as a ‘Contest Ground’ used by the Eora People.

The map is from the Sydway, Greater Sydney Street Directory, Edition 15. Sydney, NSW: Melway Publishing Pty. Ltd. 2009.

The 'map' used by friends who walked with me in Hyde Park.
